Africa Census Hub

Population and housing censuses provide fundamental information for monitoring the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063 on a wide range of statistical areas related to population and housing allowing disaggregation by small geographic areas and small population groups.  As population and housing censuses are a fundamental source for producing small area statistics, timely dissemination of good quality census data is crucial for monitoring the SDG indicators.

The overall objective of having Africa Census Hub is to create a virtual space to facilitate census information sharing, learning and collaboration among stakeholders and member states in Africa.

The specific objectives include:

  1. To establish a web-based census knowledge hub platform for sharing of information and experience

  2. To report on member state’s progress in the 2020 round of Population and Housing Censuses and promote good practice

  3. To archive pertinent census information that will inform census development in the 2020 and 2030 round of censuses.  For example: archive of African census questionnaires to improve standardisation of questions and reduce development time for implementing e-questionnaires.

  4. Using intelligence from the hub and relationships with member states develop other approaches to building capacity and providing technical assistance with member states.
