International tourism expenditures (ECO.TOR.EXP.001)
Definition
International tourism expenditures are expenditures of international outbound visitors in other countries, including payments to foreign carriers for international transport. These expenditures may include those by residents traveling abroad as same-day visitors, except in cases where these are important enough to justify separate classification. For some countries they do not include expenditures for passenger transport items. Data are in current U.S. dollars. It must be noted that the term ‘expenditure’ is used similarly for inbound as well as for outbound tourism to indicate “the amount paid for the acquisition of consumption goods and services, as well as valuables, for own use or to give away, for and during tourism trips”. Foreign visitors in the reference country generate inbound tourism expenditure (credits in the Balance of Payments), while resident visitors in foreign countries generate outbound tourism expenditure (debits in the Balance of Payments). http://statistics.unwto.org/news/2018-03-23/methodological-notes-tourism-statistics-database-2018-edition
