Country data harvester 

The country data harvester is an online data store that tracks statistical datasets published by Member States. These datasets will be used to generate statistical products, share data with end-users, and, when needed, be processed further to link with harmonized indicators for the ECA data warehouse.

Currently, datasets are captured in a strictly defined format and linked to predefined indicators. This rigidity makes data capture inflexible and inefficient, delaying data sharing and overburdening data managers with formatting and uploading tasks. As a result, essential datasets often remain confined to inboxes or staff computers, leading to loss and inaccessibility.

This new application enables the African Centre for Statistics staff to efficiently capture and share datasets with ECA divisions, SROs, and IDEP. Additionally, when harmonization is required, datasets can be processed and transformed before being uploaded to the data warehouse.

• The application consists of a management component and a public access component. The management component is secured by a username and password, allowing users to compile, manage, and validate datasets through an integrated workflow. The public access component enables data users to easily search and browse datasets, ensuring information is both searchable and readily accessible.
• It is a collaborative application where multiple users contribute to the compilation of datasets.
• Data users can subscribe to receive updates and notifications about new or updated datasets.
• All datasets are documented using the Dublin Core metadata standard to ensure consistency and interoperability.
